Toolbar is a browser plugin. It is available for Internet Explorer, Firefox and Google Chrome browsers. Toolbar has been around for more than 10 years and has evolved since its inception. Originally aimed at being a bookmark and pop-up blocker, it evolved to provide app-like experience within the Toolbar. Yahoo toolbar free download - Yahoo Messenger, Draze Toolbar, ToolBar, and many more programs. News, email and search are just the beginning. Discover more every day. Find your yodel. I think I inadvertently installed software that caused Yahoo to be my default search engine (might have been SynchTwoFolders which I downloaded from CNET). The preferences in both browsers were changed back to Google but whenever I load them, Yahoo search is the page that comes up.

View > Customize Address Bar > drag out Google Search box from real toolbar = no Google Search box.
Is there also a way to drag in other search engines - similar to the firefox technique?
You could approximate that Firefox functionality with AcidSearch. Although not 'officially' released for 10.4 yet, the author claims that it will run -- albeit somewhat buggy in parts. Hope it gets updated soon.
You can't separate the location bar and the google box in Safari 2.0.

my apologies. indeed, google and address bars are wired to each other.
The Google search box is tied to the address bar because Google paid Apple a bunch of money.
Apparently User Interface Design has a price even with Apple.

I noticed that in Interface Builder, when working with the hinted NIB. So how do we modify this thing in Interface Builder to ditch the Google box w/o losing the address bar?

This seems to disable the 'Search In Google' contextual menu item. I don't really care since I use Saft for context menu searching.
Perhaps this tip is beyond my skill level. I can remap the connections, but can't actually separate and remove the search field. Did you delete the default set and re-create the address bar from scratch?
Ah! Nevermind, it is within my skill set. It required a double-click instead of a single. Search bar deleted, thanks for the tip!
If you type an unknown address into safari (e.g. 'mac os x hints') it will perform a google search on the string, so there's no need to use 'goo mac os x hints' if you are using Sogudi.

This doesn't seem to work in Safari 3/Leopard. I can't get interface builder to separate the two boxes no matter what I try. I can only delete them both.
So I guess this hint really is 10.4 only :)

Indeed... have you since found a way to remove it?
I figured out a way to do it in Safari 3: Link
Only with Safari 2.
I was running Safari 2 on 10.4 and was able to do this. I was very happy... until I installed Safari 3 and the Google search bar returned (I'm still running 10.4 by the way). I can't seem to find any way to remove it.
I don't use Google as I can get more relevant results with other search engines, so why do I have to have a useless search bar on every browser window. I don't want to go back to Safari 2 though - search finally works the way it should, tabs finally work the way they should, spellcheck finally works the way it should.
Of course none of this would even be an issue if Apple hadn't sold out to Google. The search bar should be customisable like in Firefox.
